Great Foreign Language Learning Site

Finally a free foreign language learning site that teaches you a language with native speakers and interactive vocabulary and audio.  You just click on the language you want to learn and then go through the lessons.  I would suggest using the audio lessons unless you already know how to pronounce the words.  This is a very handy site for me in trying to teach my children a foreign language.  The language is learned by playing games which makes it so much more fun.  I’m excited about this one!  http://www.digitaldialects.com/index.htm

Virginia Soaps and Scents Review

Our homeschooling adventures have never involved making our own soap. They have involved using homemade soap before, but not making it. I had also never heard of Virginia Soaps and Scents before until a little package arrived at my door. Apparently Read more »

Moon Sand Review

Here’s my moon sand review. My son has been wanting Moon Sand for a very long time. I finally broke down and let him get some. He got the Moon Sand Castle Play although we debated getting the Moon Sand Adventure IslandIt’s fun to touch and squeeze and I must say that they have some pretty cool Moon Sand kits.

The only disadvantage I could think of was the messiness of it. It is still sand and still gets all over if you’re not careful. I wouldn’t recommend adding water either unless you want to either drain the water our or throw the sand away.

Mad Libs – My Favorite Grammar Lesson

I’ve always been a fan of Mad Libs.  I had forgotten all about them, but when I asked a couple of high school girls who had been homeschooled their whole lives what they would recommend for grammar, they said “Mad Libs.”  We’ve been using them over the last year and just love it.  Even my 6 year old plays along and knows what a noun and verb are.

I didn’t know you could play them online until now.  Here’s a great site where you can enter your words and then see the resulting story.  Try it out…

Homeschool Burnout

Someone wrote and asked me a question about what to do if you feel burned out on homeschooling or if you aren’t sure if you’re doing too many unnecessary things in homeschooling.  Here is my answer.  I thought I would share it with all of you too:

Thank you for your kind words.  Yes, I do feel like I am burned out sometimes and I do often feel like I am not doing enough. I know almost every homeschool Mom feels like that at one time or another.  When I feel burned out, I take my own advice and switch things up a bit for a couple of days.  Maybe we will switch to a different room or turn on music or just learn in a different way.  I think we all need the variety.
