Apologia Science Review
I have looked at and used many homeschool Science books and materials, but none compare with Apologia Science. When my daughters were younger we used Considering God’s Creation and stretched it out over a couple of years. Any other Science program we used, just didn’t feel like a good fit for us.
We used the library quite a bit to find Science books and information about a certain aspect of Science we wanted to study in a certain year. I used the Science Scope book to help me keep my Science study organized.
The aspects of Apologia Science that I like include:
1. Interesting content and pictures – My youngest daughter and I have been reading the Zoology series together and I look forward to every reading. I love the way that he talks in such an interesting and conversational tone. We were reading the Flying Creatures of the Air the other day. I must say that birds are very creepy to me, especially bats. I was NOT excited when we got to the chapter on bats! Amazingly enough I learned some very interesting facts about bats that I had never heard before! Maybe if someone had shared these facts with me a long time ago, I wouldn’t have such an issue with bats!
2. Good balance of scripture – The books are Biblically based, but they don’t talk about the Bible on every page. You know that the author has a healthy view of God and interjects that when he can, but he doesn’t over do it.
3. In-depth study – When you study a certain aspect of Science with Apologia, you get an in-depth look. It’s not so in-depth that you get bored though. You learn a great deal and it is all presented in a manner that makes you want to learn more.
4. Conducive to self-teaching – My older children who use the upper level Apologia books read and answer the questions all on their own. They rarely have to ask for help and rarely complain that they don’t like Science. I have been able to just turn my older children’s Science study over to them and they have taken up the challenge.
5. Interesting projects and experiements – The projects and experiments in the Zoology books have all be very clear and easy to understand and implement.
Have you used Apologia Science in the past? I would be interested to hear your comments.
