Best Homeschooling Resources
The best homeschooling resources can be found in many places? After all these years of homeschooling I would have to say that the evaluation of best resources depends on the individual parent and children. One parent might think that a certain website, curriculum or book is the best resource, but it may not be for the next person.
My philosophy has always been to find yours and your child’s learning style and move on from there. Once you know HOW you learn and what you enjoy, then you can start choosing resources. Some children love workbooks and some children love creating books. Others enjoy reading a book for themselves and still others enjoy hearing a book read to them or even acting out what they hear.
Here are my basic tips for choosing what you want to use for homeschooling:
1. Use what you need – Find out what you need to cover the basic of Reading, Writing, Math, Science, History and your chosen electives. If you find that a resource or curriculum is a daily struggle, then either adapt it or move on to something else. Remember, your relationship with your children is more important than getting through a book or curriculum.
2. Search the internet – In this age of computers, you can find almost anything you need online. If you want a resource that organizes everything for you in one place, then I recommend Internet Resources for Homeschooling
3. Use the library – This might just be the best resource out there for homeschooling. Many times I have gotten a book out of the library before I purchased it just to see if we would enjoy it. If it was a keeper, then I would buy it, but if we didn’t truly enjoy the book I knew I didn’t have to buy it.
You might find the best homeschooling resources in the strangest places. Just keep your eyes open to your children and to the world around you.
