Children’s Bible Hour
Recently I was send some books from the Children’s Bible Hour to review. I received 4 childrens books. Each came with a read along CD narrated by Uncle Charlie.
If you ever listened to the Children’s Bible Hour on the radio when you were little like I did, Uncle Charlie and the gang will be very familiar to you.
Here are the titles of the four books I received and a little bit about each one:
Race with Midnight – This is a story about Becky who was going to visit her cousin Sarah. She was able to learn to ride a horse while she was there and in the course of talking with her cousin, she was able to share lots of things about God and her faith in Him.
You Can’t Come In – This is a story of a new friendship of two boys and how the boy that was a Christian was able to share his faith with his new friend.
Seventy Times Seven – Here two boys go out to play baseball and learn a few important lessons. This one was our favorite.
Braving the Storm -A young boy interacts with his Grandpa in this story where they go from planting a tree to surviving a bad storm.
All these stories are from the Seasons of Faith series and are taken from the Children’s Bible Hour recordings. The CD included with each book allows the child to read along. There is a chime sound that tells them to turn the page.
Uncle Charlie has a wonderful way of drawing kids in when he tells a story. The recordings are good quality and pleasant to listen to.
The only negative comment I have to make is that the stories are just a bit long for a children’s picture book. I know they couldn’t take out any words because of the CD recording, but I thought they could have cut out a little bit of detail.
On a positive note, I was happy that I was able to read these to my son. They gave good practical ways for kids to share their faith in natural conversation. I think this is an important skill for kids to learn.
My son absolutely loved Seventy Times Seven because it was not a salvation message but a message that applies more to his life since he is already a Christian. It was a practical modern day example of a Biblical story that really hit home.
Each softcover book with CD is $10 and the set is $40. If you purchase the set between March 17 and April 15, 2010, you can get free shipping with the code FREESHIPAPR15.
If you’re looking for good Christian literature that you can read to your children or your children can “read” on their own, then you should get the Seasons of Faith books and read them often.
