College Prep Genius Part 2

After looking over College Prep Genius some more and now that we have our ACT scores back, I thought I would post about this course again. Like I said in my last post, my daughter does not want to go to college and didn’t want to take the ACT test in the first place. I had her look over this course, but she didn’t memorize anything in the book or take it very seriously since she wasn‘t taking the SAT. Her test scores were about average, which is  what I expected.

If you had a student that wanted to go to college and that wanted to get scholarship money to help defray the costs, then College Prep Genius will work well for you. The set includes a guide book, workbook, and “Master the SAT” class on DVD. I like the fact that she has taken into account the different learning styles in her materials. If someone likes to read, then the information is there, and if someone likes to view videos, then the information is there for them too.

The guide book and DVDs give you:

  • Basic information about the SAT
  • Breakdown by SAT section
  • Scholarship help and charts
  • Checklist of what to do during your high school years
  • What to do the night before the test
  • List of positive and negative prefixes which look to be VERY helpful
  • Shows you all the types of problems you will encounter and how to approach them
  • Math definitions
  • Chart for keeping track of test scores and ACT comparisons
  • “What Motivates Me” worksheet
  • 13 myths of the SAT

All in all, this looks like a great course for the motivated student. They will want to watch the DVDs and read the book several times and plan to spend plenty of time taking practice tests and memorizing the acronyms if they choose to do that. It looks like College Prep Genius would prepare you well to score very well on the SAT. There are plenty of testimonials in the book that tell of the success people have had with this course. The author’s 2 children earned some impressive scholarships that you can read about in the book too.
