Exercise and Fitness for Homeschool Moms
I know it sounds impossible, but exercise and fitness for homeschool moms CAN be a reality. Whether you weight 100 pounds or 300 pounds, you need to get/stay in shape and keep moving each day.
Here are some tips for staying fit, fitting in exercise, and setting a good example of fitness for your children….
Fit TV – My favorite resource lately has been the FitTV channel on television. I hardly ever watch TV, so I’ve never found this station until recently. Why didn’t anyone tell me this station existed???!!!
I turn it on around 11:30 or 12 each day after we have gotten some schooling in and they are either working on their own or ready for a break with me. I just turn it on at the hour or 1/2 hour and start working out with whoever is on. You DO need to be careful of some new age phrases and exercise routines on this channel, but I just avoid those shows. My favorites so far are Sharon Mann and Cathe Friedrich. During the commercials I just get on my mini trampoline, but you could do any type of movements while you’re waiting for the show to come back on.
Sometimes my children do the routines with me and sometimes they are off doing other things. Either way, I am setting a good example of staying/getting in shape and taking care of my body.
Use Exercise Videos that you own or rent from the library. If you don’t have Fit TV or don’t want to use it, you can get other exercise videos and use them as well. Just get moving!
Walk, Run or Ride Bikes with your Children - When the weather is good I always try to take a child or 2 on a walk with me. If I have a letter to mail or an errand to run to a place that is close enough to walk, then I force myself to walk instead of ride in the car if I can.
There are many other things you can do with your children to stay in shape such as playing hop scotch, throwing the ball back and forth, and swining on the swings.
