Family Mint

Family Mint

Here’s a program called Family Mint that you will really like especially since it’s FREE. I have come across so many interesting and creative products this year as part of the TOS Homeschool review crew and Family Mint is no exception.

Have you ever wanted to inspire your children to be able to save money or just wanted to keep track of their funds or giving them an allowance? You can keep track of all of that with this one program.

The program is all online (did I mention FREE) and is easy to set up and get logged in. There are lots of videos the help you get started and learn more and better ways to implement it. Usually when I see that something is free, I think it doesn’t have much value. Family Mint is well worth a monthly fee, but for some reason they don’t charge us to use it.

To get started you set up an account for each child. The parent is the bank and authorizes all withdrawals and transfers. You can even set up automatic deposits of allowances if you want to.

The part I like the best about the program where the savings goals. I had a couple of children tell me some items they were wanting to purchase. There is even a place to put in when you want to have the money saved for the purchase. I think many times children have these magical goals and think that the money is just going to show up.

My daughter wants to have enough money for a $15,000 car by the time she is 16. This program showed her that she needs to save $189.18 every week for the next 18 months. She is certainly setting her sights on that since she has a babysitting job, but will need to find more sources of income to make it to her goal in time.

My son wants to purchase a $500 laptop computer by Christmas. Family Mint informed him that he will need to save $12.40 per week. That is a huge amount of money for him, but at least he sees what he needs to do.

I might need to add some family goals in here myself :)

I encourage you to get registered at Family Mint and play around with the program. Get your kids set up and start setting some goals. If you want even more information on how the program works you can always view some of the videos.
