Holiday Planning Tips
We’re getting down to crunch-time now so I thought I would include some holiday planning tips. You’re probably feeling the pressure of getting everything done by Christmas. You might even have a guilt list built up by now of, “Oh, I wanted to still do that, but I’m not going to have time to get that in…”
Take a minute to regroup. You probably only have a minute, so take it! What do you REALLY still want to do? You still have about 7 days left. If you don’t have your shopping and wrapping done, you need to devote 1 day to each of those. That leaves you with 5 days. One day will be for preparing food for Christmas day and 1 day should be left to relax and enjoy the season. That gives you 3 days.
Is baking important to you? Then allow 1 day for baking. If baking cookies isn’t that important since you know you will eat them and gain weight, then set those aside for this year. Is sending Christmas cards important to you? Then set aside 2 days for that – 1 day for writing a letter and 1 day for addressing envelopes.
The main point I want to leave with you is to just do ONE Christmas related project a day. It’s silly to expect a busy homeschool Mom to do any more. It will just make you stressed and crabby to try to cram too many things into one day. Is that how you want your children to remember you? They aren’t going to remember if you got Christmas letters out this year, but they will remember how you treated them.
If you do one project a day, you will be able to stay more focused and feel more encouraged when you get that one project done. If you don’t get the project done, don’t stress, just assign it to the next day and the next day until it is done. Then move on to another project. Life gets in the way of our plans sometimes, but we should let that affect our mood. Just do what you can do and leave the rest.
The best holiday planning tip I can give you is to do ONE thing a day. That’s it, no more and don’t beat yourself up if you don’t get the one thing done. Tomorrow is a new day!
Blessing to you and Merry Christmas!
