Homeschool Physical Education – Gymathtics

Not many homeschool moms think they have time for homeschool physical education. Along comes Gymathtics. We are all about multi-tasking here, so why not apply that to homeschooling too.

This cute DVD called Gymathtics is

an interactive DVD that you can do with your children. I have always thought that someone should make a good exercise DVD that both moms and children could to do together.

Let’s face it, moms need exercise too (maybe even more than children). Who has time to fit in exercising with all the things we have to do each day. This DVD will help you do both. Just pop the DVD in the player and work out together.

I’ve been experimenting with different exercise videos lately and found that this one is not too hard and not too easy. Plus the bonus with Gymathtics is that they weave different math concepts throughout the DVD too! Kids make different shapes, count in different patterns, and learn about patterns. The instructor makes these math movements fun.

The instructor in the DVD has 4 students that exercise with her. Two are teen age and 2 are elementary age. The math facts are targeted for grade levels 2nd-5th and the video lasts about 30 minutes. I liked the fact that the math concepts were not forced but seemed like a natural part of the movements.

Although the exercises are good, the speaking is kind of cheesy. There are some quotes spoken throughout the cool down period that are encouraging but are spoken in the tone of a preschool teacher. Young children will probably be more likely to enjoy this exercise with their moms than older children unless maybe you turn the volume down:)

All in all I thought this was a great way to combine physical education, family time, and some math instruction all into one 30 minute DVD. You can order your own copy of this DVD for $24.99 directly from Exploramania with a free shipping and handling promotion right now. It looks like a Gymathtics 2.0 is coming soon too.
