Internet Field Trips
I’m back with more links to Internet field trips you can take right from your computer. While it’s not the same as being there, you still get a great tour of the world that you wouldn’t possibly be able to take in person. Some sites have better pictures than others. The sites with video and good descriptions are my favorites.
Virtual Tour of Scotland – A native of Scotland took these pictures and wrote the captions. If you click below the main picture on the site you will see many virtual tours that this man took. The pictures and captions are a wonderful view of what this man saw. Make sure you click on the little links at the top left of the page. There is even more information about Scotland there! You will find children’s stories and videos, plus a whole lot more. This site just goes on and on and on. You can certainly do an entire unit on Scotland just from this one site alone.
Cave of Lascaux – Back in the 1940′s some boys in France were rescuing their dog from a cave and miraculosly came upon this cave and it’s amazing drawings. The rest is history, of course. This website will show you exactly where this cave is and pictures of the drawings found there.
Virtual Tour of Mark Twain’s House - The house pictures are more interesting than the museum pictures. Did you know that his daughters were homeschooled? You can see the floor plan of the house and click on different rooms to see a picture of that room. The site also includes information about Mark Twain’s life and history of the house.
I will be adding more Internet field trips in future posts. This is quite fun to find all these interesting places.
If you want more websites that you can use for homeschooling (not virtual tours, just games and info) check out Internet Resources for Homeschooling.
