Math Mammoth

Some of us in the Homeschool Crew received some Math Mammoth books to review. Since my son is 8 and has a pretty good understanding of his addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts, I chose to review Introduction to Fractions and Early Geometry.

Both books are ebooks that you download to the computer. Yes, you have to print them yourself, but the beauty of that is that you only have to print what you want or what you will use at a given time. You can also print the whole book if you want.

They have all the answers at the end of each book and a page at the beginning of the book filled with Internet sites that you can use for that subject.

There are lots of pictures in these books and plenty of coloring and shading to introduce and reinforce the concepts. Each concept is explained well with just the right amount of text and pictures.

I love the innovative ways the author Maria Miller uses to teach these sometimes stressful concepts.

The Introduction to Fractions book is a “self-teaching worktext” for grades 2-4 (approximately)and is 76 pages long.  I have been going through most of it with my 8 year old, but a 3rd or 4th grader should be able to go through this book on his/her own.

Early Geometry introduces geometry concepts for grades 1-5. They cover shapes, angles, parallel lines, symmetry, area, perimeter, and solids. I really liked the shapes at the end of the book that you can cut out and make to show the different shapes of solids. I KNOW my son is going to love making those when we get there.

My son enjoyed the pages he has done so far. He easily did 2 pages of math per day when I could barely get him to do 1/2 a page of the math facts practice that we were using before.

There are many more products that are offered at Math Mammoth. They cover topics or books by grade level for grades 1-7. You can get the individual books mentioned above plus others for $2.75-$5.00. I can’t believe she is selling these so cheap!

For an even better deal you can get all 28 Blue Series books for $70 as a download or $75 on a CD. With that you get over 1300 lessons and practice pages. If you didn’t need quite that much you could get the Blue Series books for just grades 1-3 (16 books) for $40 download.

If you’re looking for a thorough, innovative, and fun way to teach math, then Math Mammoth is for you.

As a member of the Homeschool Crew, I was given this product to review. I was not paid for this post and do not have to return the product to the vendor.  The opinions expressed in this post are those of the blog owner (me).
