Mathscore

I was able to review Mathscore as part of the TOS crew of product testers. Mathscore is a computer program that you access through the Internet. All your child’s work is done there and stored there.

They focus on developing computation speed and critical thinking. Their system is proven to raise test scores. They encourage mastery and don’t move the student on until he has achieved mastery.

You can access your child’s work by topic or by grade. I found it a little difficult to know where my child left off and where to take him next. You do get statistics that show what they have done and whether they are struggling in a certain area or have mastered that, but I didn’t find a clear path of what to do next.

There are all kinds of problems and topics for you to choose from. You can choose a grade level or just topics that you want to cover with your child.

At the top of your child’s own page you can view “topics”, “statistics”, and “awards.” When you click on “topics”, you just choose what topic you want your child to work on that day and then click on “do worksheet.” They can do one worksheet or many worksheets. As they build up their amount of higher scoring worksheets they earn points and awards and move from rookie to trainee and on up.

After your child completes a worksheet (on the computer) they get instant access to their score. When your child has an incorrect answer, it gives them an explanation of how to get the correct answer along with the answer. I think this is important because if no one ever shows your child how to do a problem right, they will keep doing it wrong.

You as a parent, you get emails each day that your child was online. They tell you what they worked on and their progress.
