More Picture Books to Use for Homeschool Science

I have found more picture books to use for Homeschool Science, so I thought I would share them with you. So many moms think they have to teach a ton of Science or get a curriculum to be able to teach effectively. For the younger grades, I believe you just need picture books, a sense of wonder about the world around you and a love for learning.

Your child will ask plenty of questions. Answering their questions will be your curriculum. Here are just a few more picture books you can use:

Magic School Bus – Butterfly and the Bog Beast – My son loves all Magic School Bus books and this one is no exception. I learned a lot about butterflies that I didn’t know. They used a modern-day class problem and used it to learn about butterfly habits, traits, and behaviors.

My Shadow by Robert Lois Stevenson – This illustrator took a popular children’s poem and relayed how shadows behave by using children in the pictures. Very well done!

Gregory, the Terrible Eater by Mitchell Sharmat – This is a cute book about a goat that doesn’t like to eat “normal” goat food like coats and shoes. He prefers to eat real people food. The story is about how his parents helped him to eat both types of food so everyone was happy. This helps introduce healthy eating in a fun way.

The Magic School Bus Explores the Senses by Joanna Cole – What a better way to explore then senses that to take a trip inside your head? This book is enjoyable for both adults and children. This should spur some questions from your child about the senses and what goes on inside your body!

Stories for All Seasons by Eric Carle – This book is a collection of 3 Carle stories: Rooster’s Off to See the World, A House for Hermit Crab, and The Tiny Seed. The rooster story is about a rooster who goes around and collects friends to go see the world. There is some counting in this one too. The hermit crab story is my favorite of these 3. It talks about how a certain hermit crab outgrew his shell and found another one to live in and decorate. The last story is about how a seed travels, gets planted and grows and how not all seeds make it into a plant.

Everyone loves a story. Why not have stories from picture books to use for homeschool Science. We all remember stories much better than boring facts and textbooks anyways. This method is much more fun for parent and child. I love hearing about what these little plants and animals did. I learn by reading too!

Feel free to share your favorite picture books.
