Mystery of History Review
I thought I would give you a Mystery of History review since it’s one of my favorite History resources. There are 3 volumes that are written by Linda Hobar, a Christian homeschool Mom.
In each volume you will get 36 weeks of lessons organized 3 lessons at a time with activity suggestions at the end of each level classified by age level. The lessons don’t take much time to read and are interesting for both parent and child. She gives you some pretest and post test pages with each week of lessons along with suggestions for memory cards and notebook ideas.
The books are quite thick and present the material in a chronological manner. Volume 1 is Creation to the Resurrection. Volume 2 is the Early Church through the Middle Ages and Volume 3 is the Renaissance, Reformation, and Growth of Nations. I’m not sure if she will be adding more volumes or not.
You can use this program as a complete curriculum or a supplement. There are plenty of notebook and activity ideas at the end of each lesson to keep you busy if you choose to use them.
I like this program because it provides a Biblical perspective on History and it is interesting for me to read. It holds my children’s attention too.
You can also purchase extra CDs with maps and quizzes to print out. If you don’t use the activity/notebook ideas or make the memory cards, I’m not sure how well your children will retain the knowledge they heard.
I have heard that this program is an affordable alternative to Tapestry of Grace since it is a similar course of study. I’m all for a more affordable curriculum!
This Mystery of History review highly recommends this program for ease of use and enjoyablility
