Simplifying Classical Education

Recently I was able to view the new weE-book Simplifying Classical Education from The Old Schoolhouse. Although I have written ebooks, I’m new to this whole concept of weE-books. They certainly are little books, but as a homeschool Mom I don’t have much time to read. Sometimes a little book on a certain topic I am interested in is all I can handle.

I have been interested in Classical Education for some time now after having skimmed over the Well Trained Mind a couple of years ago. The Well Trained Mind can be a little intimidating even to the most veteran homeschool Mom. I thought maybe this weE-book would simplify things for me and break the concept down to a more manageable level.

Although the book did break things down a little, I would have to say it was still a bit over my head. I thought it would explain the stages and the benefits of learning “the trivium” way. The book DID start to simplify classical education for me just a bit, but I really wanted more detail.

Learning that classical education includes the “Great Books”, Latin, Logic, and Rhetoric helped some. I appreciated the author giving examples of what books and guides she used to teach her children in these various areas.

Although the books and guides she mentioned still seem over my head, it is helpful to know that she encourages parents to learn right along with their children. They don’t have to know it before their children learn it.

I have a better understanding of classical education and what I need to do to implement it. Now I just need to decide if that is the direction we want to dive into!
