The Duggers: 20 And Counting Review

Since I recently read this book I thought I would do a The Duggars: 20 and Counting review. A friend sent me a video by email a few months ago about this wonderful homeschooling family that just had their 18th child.
I don’t know what it is about big families that intrigues us, but most people can’t get enough of them. We don’t get the Learning Channel that airs their show, so I turned to the book for my information.
The book is a wonderful story of how the Duggars love began. It tells about how they grew up, met and started their family. They have had quite an adventure with businesses and housing situations!
Their soft hearts and wonderful spirits come through all throughout the book. They are very bold about their faith and how God has been an integral part of their lives from the beginning.
Their commitment to stay debt free was the highlight for me. You would think that anyone with that many children would be exempt from that principle, but they are committed to it and God has delivered in some pretty amazing ways.
Their children sound like wonderful people. It intrigues me that they all wanted to be together in their new home.  All the boys wanted to be in one bedroom and all the girls wanted to be in another bedroom. That is a testimony right their to their parenting skills because most teenagers would want their own room with some privacy and yet these teens value and adore their younger siblings. They do address in the book that everything is not rosy, but that their parents have helped them deal with keeping short accounts and not letting their anger fester and damage their relationships.
I read the book to get some ideas of how I can implement even some of their ideas for my family with 4 children. Certainly if they can do it with 18 children, I can glean something for my 4.
This Duggar 20 and Counting Review is definitely a 9 or 10 in my book. The only negative I can think of is that the recipes that were listed in the book were not useable to me because they used ingredients that I don’t use like cream of mushroom soup and velvetta cheese, etc. We eat a little more healthy than they do, but I certainly can’t fault them for using cheaper ingredients to feed such a crowd.

Get the book!!
