Web Design for Kids (…. and Curious Grown-Ups)

I have had the privilege of reviewing the DVD Web Design for Kids over the past month. Many times children can figure out how to create a web page or do anything on the computer better than adults. With this program, they will be able to have all the tools they need to learn about website designing.

Mr. Richardson, the host of the program does a nice job of walking students and adults through the process of starting at the beginning of web designing and going through the whole process. He takes you step by step along with two other students and uses simple language and commands.

I have made several websites and blogs and even learned a few things about website design and html code. My 7 year old son sat with me while I followed through the steps in the video. He was very interested in it and asked me to let him know when I would be using the program again. I’m looking forward to having the rest of my children learn website design with this program.

The best way I found to use this DVD was to put it into a laptop and sit it next to another computer. That way I could watch the DVD on the computer and pause it when I needed to. I was able to enter the commands and use my computer just as he instructed  while he was doing it. I suppose you could watch the DVD on TV and take notes or have a laptop with you while you were watching it on TV.

The only thing that I found a little difficult at first was understanding Mr. Richardson. I’m not sure if he has a bit of a southern accent or not, but it took me a little while to get used to his method of speaking. Once I was able to listen to him for a while, I was able to understand him just fine.

The kids on the DVD were a little corny but they added a lot to the video by showing how a child would enter code and be excited about what they could do.

The DVD does not show you how to upload  code to a web page, but does give you some very valuable information about html code. The way Mr. Richardson explains using html and the pictures he uses help demystify the whole process.

I really liked the bonus section that explained file management. He used a real filing cabinet to illustrate how files are saved on a computer.

Whether you are petrified of the whole process of html code or have a child that would really like to get their hands on making a web page, you probably won’t be disappointed with Web Design for Kids and Curious Grown-Ups. You can order it for 50% off as part of their summer special, which is $19.99 plus $3.99 shipping. You can order online or by phone and it comes with a money back guarantee.
